Here's what we've been doing to hold power to account.
Fair Vote UK launches the All-Party-Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections
In 2022, Fair Vote UK worked with a large number of civil society organisations to push the government to tackle harmful misinformation, online hate, incitement of violence, and more.
Fair Vote UK and the APPG on Electoral Campaigning Transparency released the report 'Defending our Democracy in the Digital Age'. This ground-breaking report sets out 20 recommendations on how to protect UK elections and referenda from ‘dirty money and dodgy data misuse’.
In 2022, Fair Vote UK facilitated a coalition of more than 60 organisations and academics to oppose the governments Elections Bill. While the bill ultimately passed in Parliament by the hands of an 80-seat government majority, a new federation of democracy-loving organisations emerged in opposition. Now passed into law as the Elections Act, the bill’s damage is becoming undeniable. We’re continuing to work with partners to undo the consequences of this draconian legislation.
This 2020 report analyses and tackles the threat posed to democracy by Covid-19. Two central functions of democracy have been imperilled by this crisis: Governments and Parliaments functioning and Elections taking place. ‘Democracy in the Age of Pandemic’ addresses both of these in turn and outlines solutions.
Formed originally by Fair Vote UK, Stephen Kinnock MP, and the Electoral Reform Society, the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Group addresses transparency, deterrence, and monitoring in electoral campaigns.
We send periodic updates about our progress with opportunities to engage directly in the work.
